Last night, Washington Redskins philanthropist Pierre Garçon hosted his Third Annual All-White Clothing Charity Event, benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs of Greater Washington (BGCGW) at the Millennium Building. BGCGW seeks to embolden a generation of future leaders in the DMV area by supporting at-risk youth. The event raised $106,000 for the cause, which would not have been possible without top sponsors The Tower Companies and Brett Johnson Collection.
Redskins Quarterback Robert Griffin III, Offensive Tackle Trent Williams, Placekicker Kai Forbath, Tight End Niles Paul, Quarterback Kirk Cousins, and former Redskin and Super Bowl champ Doug Williams turned out to support Garçon. Guests sipped Moët Ice champagne and Belvedere & Hennessy cocktails and nibbled on Burger 7 sliders while Griffin and Garçon kicked off the live auction. Some of the items included VIP access at Echostage at a concert of the winner’s choosing, as well as an appearance in a commercial with Garçon for Paisano’s Restaurant.
BGCGW also honored seventeen-year-old Ayanna Holmes at the event, BGCGW’s Youth of the Year. Holmes, who lives in District Heights, takes two trains and a bus every day to come to BGCGW, and plans to go to college for social work after she graduates next year. “[BGCGW] took me from where I was and built me up to the person I am today. They helped me find my passion for photography and poetry,” Holmes said.
“It’s a challenge to find someone who not only supports the cause, but who will also spend time connecting with the kids,” Chief Development Officer for BGCGW Paul Alagero said. “In this way, Garçon is the perfect role model for the Boys and Girls Club.”
Spirits stayed high as Hip Hop legend DJ Kool closed out the event with a surprise performance of his hit, “Let Me Clear My Throat” while audience members cheered. Kool kept guests on the dance floor into the late hours with old school jams.
“I always look forward to this event,” Garçon said. “BGCGW was home for me, and I want to give other kids the same chance to engage with their communities and have the same opportunities I had. Hopefully, each year will be even more successful than the last.”
