Yesterday I had the honor of being one of the moderators for The 2016 Girls Inspire “HerStory” Summit held at the Thurgood Marshall Center. This event was created by The Society For Girls Inc which is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to empower girls to be smart, resourceful, and confident; by engaging them in their communities, building their self-esteem, and encouraging them to make a positive mark on the world.
The summit consisted of open and honest discussion between the panelists and our young teen girls in attendance. We wanted them to leave inspired and encouraged. To strive for the best and reach for the stars. We talked about social media issues, self esteem, careers and self love. The highlight of my day was when a mom of a 13 yr old girl walked up to me and thanked me for sharing my story. She said that it was just what her girl needed to hear. I couldn’t help but smile back at the girl and say “trust me, it’s cool to be smart and don’t let anyone tell you it isn’t”.
Our panels consisted of women from various career backgrounds which was important because we wanted our young girls to know that they CAN be anything that they work hard for. Check out some of the pics below and follow The Society For Girls Inc for their many upcoming events.
